Kings Park Botanical Gardens

 

Kings Park occupies approximately 400 hectares of Mount Eliza overlooking the city of Perth and the Swan River. Situated only a few minutes away from the centre of Perth, the park has much to offer with its sweeping parklands, botanic garden, wildflowers (which are spectacular, especially in Spring, and native bushland (two-thirds of the park).

There are extensive city and river views with a panorama to the Darling Scarp. On a clear day, from the top of the DNA Tower in Forrest Drive, the Indian Ocean can be seen to the west. The magnificently sited State War Memorial is also one of several scenic vantage points.

The Western Australian Botanical Garden extends south of the State War Memorial and is planted with 1700 native species.

Extensive dual-use paths (pedestrian and bicycle, also accessible to wheelchairs) traverse Kings Park and bikes can be hired from the bicycle hire which operates from the main car park adjacent to the restaurant, tearoom and snack bar.

The Visitor Information Centre is part of the tearoom/restaurant/snackbar complex and is operated by the volunteer Kings Park Guides. Maps and a variety of other literature about Kings Park is available , together withan extensive range of souvenirs. Kings Park Guides invite you to a free guided walking tours, available 10am and 2pm daily throughout the year (except Christmas Day).

Western Power Parkland Cafe adjoins the Arthur Fairall Playground in may Drive, and the Lotteries Family Area is off Kings park Road.

There are picnic and barbeque facilities, public toilets and playgrounds at several locations in Kings park. The Lotteries Family Area is primarily for children aged up to six years old and disabled children and is served by Stickybeaks Cafe. The Western Power Parkland has several electric barbeques and a cafe.

The Kings Park Tearooms and Fraser's Restaurant are located on Fraser Avenue in Kings Park. Kings Park Tearooms are open daily. Fraser's is open daily for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

The annual Wildflower Festival is Australia's largest and most varied massed native plant display and wildflower exhibition. This year it takes place from 30 September - 4 October.
